Parents Right to Know
📘 PARENTS’ RIGHT TO KNOW – NOTIFICATION
In accordance with the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), all parents and guardians of students attending Title I schools have the right to request and receive timely information about the professional qualifications of their child’s classroom teachers.
This notice must be distributed at the start of each school year. Please note, this letter does not contain individual teacher information, but outlines the types of information you may request.
You may request information about:
-
Whether your child’s teacher has met Oklahoma’s certification and licensing requirements for the grade level and subject they are teaching.
-
Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or provisional status, meaning state requirements have been waived.
-
The teacher’s college degree major, as well as any graduate degrees or certifications they hold, including the field of study.
-
Whether your child receives support from paraprofessionals, and if so, information about their qualifications.
Additional Notification:
If your child is assigned to, or taught by, a teacher who is not “highly qualified” for four or more consecutive weeks, you will receive written notification in a timely manner.
Language Access:
All communications will be provided in a format that is understandable and uniform. Whenever possible, we will provide these in a language you can understand. If written translation is not possible, we will make arrangements for oral translation.
Requesting Information:
To request teacher qualification information, please submit a written request to your school’s principal.
Your partnership in your child’s education is important to us. If you have any questions, please contact the school office for assistance.
